Recruitment Challenge

Capita approached us with a requirement for 2,156 temporary workers to help supplement their work on a government contract. Our client needed to be fully operational before the end of the month which meant a large-scale recruitment drive was needed immediately.

Further complications meant that all parties – including the new temporary workforce – would be working from home throughout the campaign. Capita’s infrastructure was unable to support any new workers, and so the prospective candidates would need to have home-office capabilities already in place. This created an entirely new work environment for all involved.

At the start of our work, we drafted in customer contact centre experts from elsewhere in our business to provide our existing Capita management team with additional support during this time. The dedicated team launched an attraction campaign supported by 31 of our UK branches.

As part of the campaign, technical requirements were advertised in addition to the traditional specifications. Candidates needed to have a laptop or home PC, internet connectivity, and the latest anti-virus software. Applicants were supported to help demonstrate that they had the required tools available before undergoing an online competency assessment and vetting.

Our use of technology was critical to our success, rules-based scheduling along with a candidate management portal helped us quickly and accurately match candidates.

Through our applicant tracking system, we were able to provide updates twice a day on how many candidates were in the pipeline and what stage of the process they were at. This consistent reporting meant that our client had full confidence in us as their sole supplier to meet their demand.

Through our long-standing partnership with Capita, and this recent challenge, we were able to support our client’s shift into remote working. 

Through this project, we:

  • Screened and supplied 1,549 qualified temporary workers
  • 2-week turnaround time


With a 25% reduction in the original requirement, Capita were able to fulfil demand while receiving a soft cost saving in relation to reduced training need and management load.
