Warehouse Team Leader - Christchurch -
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Hours: 8:30am to 5:30pm, including alternate weekends
We're looking for a highly organised and proactive Warehouse Team Leader to support the smooth and efficient running of a busy garden centre operation behind the scenes.
Working at the heart of the business, you'll lead the warehouse team, ensuring deliveries are received efficiently, stock is accurately managed, and products are available where and when they're needed.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the warehouse and goods-in operation.
- Lead, motivate, and organise the warehouse team to maintain high standards.
- Ensure all deliveries are checked, processed, and recorded accurately.
- Maintain excellent stock control, storage, and stock rotation practices.
- Identify and resolve operational issues proactively.
- Support stocktakes and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure efficient stock flow.
- Uphold high standards of housekeeping, organisation, and safety.
- Keep warehouse and yard areas clean, organised, and compliant.
- Ensure warehouse equipment and fixtures are maintained to a high standard.
- Communicate stock shortages, delivery delays, and operational risks promptly.
- Support seasonal changeovers and busy trading periods.
- Monitor and report health & safety and security concerns.
- Oversee the customer delivery process.
Day-to-Day Duties
- Conduct regular walkthroughs of warehouse and storage areas.
- Ensure deliveries are managed efficiently and professionally.
- Coordinate the timely movement of stock to the shop floor.
- Manage returns to suppliers and stock transfers.
- Ensure equipment checks are completed and documented.
- Support recruitment, training, and development of team members.
- Assist with rota management, holiday requests, and payroll administration where required.
- Provide excellent customer service when required.
- Work closely with the retail management team to support operational demands.
- Undertake Duty Manager responsibilities and key holder duties when required.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous warehouse, logistics, or goods-in experience with supervisory or team leader responsibilities.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Confidence using IT systems and stock management processes.
- Proven experience in stock control and inventory management.
- A sound understanding of health & safety requirements.
- A hands-on approach and positive attitude.
- A forklift licence (desirable but not essential).
- Flexibility to work alternate weekends.
