Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Power Supply Design Engineer with strong, hands‑on expertise across the full lifecycle of power‑supply development. You will take ownership of designing high‑performance, reliable electronic power systems from concept through to production, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

This is a key technical role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges, working with SMPS topologies, and delivering robust solutions for demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of power supplies from concept to project completion.
  • Select appropriate power‑supply topologies to meet performance, efficiency, and reliability requirements.
  • Perform detailed circuit design, simulation, and optimisation.
  • Conduct component selection for performance, cost, and environmental suitability.
  • Design magnetics, including transformers and inductors.
  • Develop solutions suitable for harsh EMC, environmental, shock, and vibration requirements.
  • Carry out hands‑on debugging, verification, and validation of prototypes and production units.
  • Produce and review PCB layouts, ensuring best practice for thermal, EMC, and manufacturability.
  • Liaise with internal teams across mechanical, manufacturing, test, and purchasing.
  • Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Contribute to improving internal engineering design tools and processes.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience in power supply design, including:
    • Concept development
    • Topology selection
    • Circuit design
    • Component selection
    • Magnetics design (transformers)
    • Designing for harsh EMC and environmental conditions
    • Debugging, verification, and validation
    • PCB layout
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and compliance requirements.

Preferred Technical Skills

  • Ability to produce high‑quality technical documentation, including:
    • Test plans
    • Test reports
    • Acceptance test specifications
    • Design reports
  • Experience liaising with third‑party test facilities.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of projects and deliver to agreed timescales.
  • Experience designing to recognised engineering and safety standards.

Preferred Soft Skills

  • Strong collaboration skills with mechanical, manufacturing, test, and purchasing teams.
  • Ability to contribute effectively to customer meetings and design reviews.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to improve engineering tools and workflows.
  • Clear communication skills and a structured approach to problem‑solving.
