The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to join a forward-thinking business and play a key role in the successful delivery of multiple projects.
Working closely with operational teams, subcontractors, and senior stakeholders, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from inception through to completion, ensuring commercial objectives are achieved while maintaining strong client and contractor relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and administer construction contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and maximising commercial performance.
- Lead cost planning, forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting across multiple projects.
- Monitor project expenditure and identify opportunities to improve commercial outcomes.
- Work closely with Project Managers and site teams to provide commercial guidance and support project delivery.
- Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
- Support procurement activities and contribute to supply chain management strategies.
- Assist with tender preparation, pricing submissions, and commercial input during pre-construction phases.
- Review project documentation to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Produce accurate financial reports and present commercial performance updates to senior management.
- Support and mentor junior members of the commercial team where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the development of best commercial practices across the business.
About You
You are a driven and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor with strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
You will be a confident communicator who enjoys working collaboratively with both operational and commercial teams, while maintaining a proactive approach to problem-solving and value engineering.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, or related sectors.
- Experience working with main contractors and managing commercial aspects of complex projects.
- Strong knowledge of cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and commercial reporting.
- Experience managing subcontractor accounts and contract administration.
- Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional membership with RICS, CIOB, or working towards chartered status.
- Experience supporting pre-construction, tendering, and procurement processes.
- Knowledge of NEC, JCT, or other standard forms of contract.
- Experience mentoring junior team members or supporting commercial teams.
