Night Shift - Transport Operator
Location: West Thurrock
Shift Pattern: 4 On / 4 Off
Hours: 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM
Pay Rate: £15.57 per hour + £200 monthly night shift allowance
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Transport Operator to join our transport operations team on a night shift basis. This is a fast-paced and varied role requiring a strong understanding of transport operations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to make informed decisions in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Control and coordinate transport operations within your designated area.
- Review and monitor planned work, making adjustments where required to maintain service levels.
- Dispatch drivers and ensure efficient utilisation of transport resources.
- Monitor driver activity and provide operational support throughout the shift.
- Manage and resolve issues that arise during operations, including driver defects, vehicle defects, site issues, and incidents.
- Maintain accurate records and produce timely operational reports.
- Ensure effective communication and handovers with fellow Transport Operators, Shift Managers, Transport Managers, and customers.
- Escalate operational concerns appropriately and support resolution activities.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, health and safety requirements, and transport regulations.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience within a transport, logistics, or fleet operations environment is essential.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Confident using transport management systems and operating within a control room or transport office environment.
- Ability to make operational decisions and respond quickly to changing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate reporting.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have a solid background in transport operations and be comfortable managing multiple priorities throughout a shift. Due to the complexity of the operation, previous transport industry experience is essential, as there is a significant amount of information and operational knowledge to absorb.
