Health, Safety & Environmental Manager Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced HSE Manager to join our client's food manufacturing facility based at Royal Portbury Dock, Bristol on a 6+ month contract.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Health, Safety and Environmental professional to play a key role in driving a positive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting continuous improvement across a busy food production site.
Reporting into the site leadership team and working closely with regional HSE colleagues, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact, influencing both people and processes while championing the clients philosophy.
About the Site
The purpose-built manufacturing facility produces approximately 36,000 tonnes of dry powder blends per year, supporting a diverse portfolio of food products across multiple sectors, including:
- Prepared Meals
- Soups, Sauces & Dressings
- Appetisers & Side Dishes
- Savoury Snacks
- Meat, Fish & Poultry Products
Key Responsibilities
As HSE Manager, you will:
- Support factory management teams with all Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the site.
- Provide expert advice on UK HSE legislation, industry best practice and company standards.
- Drive the site's safety agenda through training, employee engagement initiatives, accident investigation and continuous improvement programmes.
- Promote and reinforce a strong, positive safety culture through effective communication and workforce involvement.
- Develop and implement HSE performance standards and benchmarking frameworks, including ISO 14001 requirements.
- Coordinate risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
- Lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with legal obligations.
- Conduct regular site Health, Safety and Environmental audits.
- Chair and coordinate site HSE Committee meetings.
- Maintain and continuously improve Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
- Support Occupational Health programmes and provide guidance to managers and HR teams on workplace health and safety matters.
- Manage the site's Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001:2018.
- Ensure compliance and maintenance of the site's IPPC licence requirements.
- Monitor environmental objectives, targets and compliance programmes to drive continual improvement.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent qualification).
- Strong working knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Previous experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role within manufacturing, production, food manufacturing, FMCG or a similar environment.
- Experience conducting audits, investigations and risk assessments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence and engage colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
- Full driving licence and own transport due to the location of the site.
Desirable
- Degree-level qualification.
- Previous experience in a managerial or leadership capacity.
- Experience working within a food manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
