Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Midlands
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: Competitive, dependent on skills and experience

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering business specialising in the design and delivery of complex electrical and control systems projects.

This role will involve designing electrical systems for a range of automated and industrial applications, supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electrical and control systems using EPLAN Electric P8.
  • Produce electrical schematics, panel layouts and associated manufacturing documentation.
  • Create detailed documentation including terminal plans, cable schedules, bills of materials and safety-related documentation.
  • Generate reports and labelling information, including wire numbers, cable labels and device tags.
  • Specify and size electrical equipment, including control panels, drives, safety devices, sensors, actuators and associated components.
  • Import and export engineering drawings in DXF/DWG formats where required.
  • Design and support validation of machine safety systems in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical, safety and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support during build, installation, commissioning and customer handover activities.
  • Attend customer sites when required to support project delivery.

Essential Requirements

  • HND, Degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Around 5+ years' experience in an Electrical Design Engineer position within a project-led engineering environment.
  • Strong experience using EPLAN Electric P8.
  • Good understanding of electrical design principles, control systems and industrial automation equipment.
  • Experience designing systems incorporating variable speed drives, servo drives or motion control equipment.
  • Knowledge of machinery safety principles and safety circuit design.
  • Ability to produce and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Existing right to work in the UK.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience using EPLAN Pro Panel.
  • Familiarity with safety validation tools and Performance Level calculations.
  • Exposure to major automation platforms and technologies.
  • Experience supporting factory acceptance testing, installation or commissioning activities.
  • Previous experience working across a variety of engineering sectors.
