We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Cemetery Grave Digging Operative to join our grounds team. This is a vital role supporting bereaved families by ensuring all burial areas are prepared, maintained, and presented to the highest possible standard. The position involves outdoor, year‑round work and requires a respectful, professional approach at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grave preparation - digging, backfilling, and preparing burial plots using hand tools and mechanical equipment
  • Grounds maintenance - mowing, strimming, planting, and general upkeep of cemetery grounds
  • Site safety - following all health and safety procedures, including safe use of machinery
  • Funeral support - assisting funeral directors and families during services
  • Record keeping - updating burial registers and ensuring accurate plot identification
  • Team collaboration - working closely with grounds staff and management to maintain high standards

About You

  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual outdoor work in all weather
  • Able to operate or learn to operate small plant machinery (e.g., mini‑diggers)
  • Respectful, discreet, and sensitive when working around grieving families
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions precisely
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
