We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Cemetery Grave Digging Operative to join our grounds team. This is a vital role supporting bereaved families by ensuring all burial areas are prepared, maintained, and presented to the highest possible standard. The position involves outdoor, year‑round work and requires a respectful, professional approach at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Grave preparation - digging, backfilling, and preparing burial plots using hand tools and mechanical equipment
- Grounds maintenance - mowing, strimming, planting, and general upkeep of cemetery grounds
- Site safety - following all health and safety procedures, including safe use of machinery
- Funeral support - assisting funeral directors and families during services
- Record keeping - updating burial registers and ensuring accurate plot identification
- Team collaboration - working closely with grounds staff and management to maintain high standards
About You
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual outdoor work in all weather
- Able to operate or learn to operate small plant machinery (e.g., mini‑diggers)
- Respectful, discreet, and sensitive when working around grieving families
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions precisely
- Full UK driving licence preferred
