Location: Brighton (BN1)

We are currently recruiting Refuse & Recycling Operatives to join a busy environmental services team based in Brighton & Hove (BN1). This is a great opportunity to secure an ongoing temporary assignment within an essential frontline service.

Induction & Start Date

• Induction Date: Monday 15th June
• Start date: Tuesday 16th June (subject to successful induction)

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday
• AM shifts: 05:00 or 06:00 starts
• PM shifts: 12:30 or 13:30 starts
• Shifts are approximately 7 hours per day
• Applicants can work AM or PM shifts but must be flexible
• Flexibility across both AM and PM shifts is highly desirable
• Overtime available (evenings, weekends, and bank holidays)

Pay Rates

• £13.69 per hour (standard rate)
• Up to £20.54 per hour (enhanced rates for evenings, weekends, and bank holidays)

Key Responsibilities

• Loading refuse and recycling bins onto HGV dustcarts
• Moving bags, wheelie bins, and recycling containers
• Using lifting mechanisms to empty bins safely into the vehicle
• Acting as a reversing assistant (banksman duties)
• Completing collection rounds efficiently and within set timeframes
• Adhering to all health and safety procedures
• Working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Following instructions from supervisors and team leaders
• Ensuring correct PPE is worn at all times

Skills & Requirements

• Ability to work safely and follow procedures at all times
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling duties
• Ability to walk long distances over the course of your shift (10-15 miles daily covered by foot)
• Organised and able to perform in a fast-paced environment
• Flexible and willing to take on a variety of tasks
• Strong communication skills
• Reliable, punctual, and dependable
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
