Refuse & Recycling Chargehand - Refuse Class 2 Driver

Working as a Refuse & Recycling Chargehand (HGV Driver), you will be responsible for both driving Class 2 vehicles (Category C) and supervising a team of loaders to deliver efficient waste and recycling services.

This is a hands-on role involving driving, loading, and team supervision within a public-facing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive HGV Class 2 / Category C vehicles on refuse and recycling routes
• Supervise and lead waste collection operatives / loaders
• Carry out domestic waste collection, trade waste collection, and recycling collections
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, DVSA, and highway regulations
• Complete daily vehicle checks, tachograph compliance, and route paperwork
• Collect general waste, recycling, garden waste, bulky items, and commercial waste
• Maintain a high level of customer service and public interaction
• Assist with manual handling, loading, and operational duties as required

Essential Requirements (Keywords for Search Matching)

• HGV Class 2 Licence (Category C)
• Valid CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence)
• Digital Tachograph Card
• Experience in refuse collection / waste management / recycling / street cleansing
• Previous experience as HGV Driver, LGV Driver, Dustcart Driver, RCV Driver, Bin Lorry Driver
• Ability to work in a physically demanding, outdoor role
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety and safe systems of work
• Good team leadership / supervisory skills
• Excellent time management and route planning awareness

Desirable Skills

• Experience working within a Local Authority / Council environment
• Knowledge of environmental services and recycling processes
