Duration: 3-5 months (potential to extend - long-term sick cover)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 06:30 - 15:00
Pay: £13.00 per hour (£19.50 per hour overtime rate)
Overview
We are currently recruiting for a Fuel Handling Operative to support our client's operations in Cramlington. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established industrial site, working as part of a skilled operations team in a safety-critical environment.
This role offers consistent weekday hours with the opportunity to boost earnings through optional weekend overtime when available. There is also strong potential for extension beyond the initial contract period.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Fuel Handling Team Leader / Operations Manager, you will play a vital role in the safe and efficient running of fuel handling operations across site. Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Managing all aspects of fuel handling operations, from fuel reception through to by-product removal, ensuring safety and reliability at all times
- Operating fuel handling and by-product plant equipment within safety, environmental and operational limits
- Carrying out daily duties such as:
- Routine LOLER checks and vehicle pre-use inspections
- Fuel handling system operations
- General plant inspections
- Monitoring traffic management and weighbridge systems
- Conducting fuel quality checks to ensure compliance with specifications
- Assisting with monthly audits and stocktakes of on-site fuel
- Providing hands-on support to operations and maintenance teams, including:
- Basic fault finding
- First-line maintenance and defect resolution
- Operating the site weighbridge to accurately record deliveries
- Recording all tasks, defects, and maintenance activities in the CMMS system
Candidate Requirements

- Ability to work proactively and as part of a team in a fast-paced industrial setting
- Good attention to detail and reliability
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience operating mobile plant (e.g. loading shovels, telehandlers, etc.)
- Previous experience in fuel handling, waste management, or heavy industry environments
