South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) is part of the National Health Service (NHS). They are one of the largest ambulance trusts in the UK, working across over 3,600 square miles of densely populated urban areas, sparsely populated rural areas and some of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country.

Serving over 4.9 million people, the 4,000 staff working throughout the Trust respond to 999 calls and provide an integrated NHS 111 and Clinical Assessment Service to the public and healthcare professionals on non-urgent, urgent, and emergency healthcare needs.

SECAmb Locations 

999 calls are responded to from two Emergency Operations Centres, one in Crawley, which is also the headquarters and another at the regional office in Coxheath. NHS 111 and Clinical Assessment Services are provided from both the Crawley HQ and a centre in Ashford for Kent, Medway and Sussex.

In addition to the above, SECAmb have the following locations and facilities throughout the South East;

  • 8 make ready centres - a 24/7base where ambulance crews report at the start and end of their shift and where vehicles are cleaned, replenished and maintained.
  • 33 ambulance stations – for the storage of ambulance vehicles and their medical equipment and working and living space for staff.
  • 69 ambulance community response posts - a place that provides rest facilities for staff between emergencies.
  • 2 Hazardous Area Response (HART) Centres - HART teams work alongside the police and fire & rescue services within what is known as the ‘inner cordon’ of a major incident, triaging and treating casualties.

Some of these locations and the services provided from each are due to change. In May 2022, staff at the Crawley and Ashford sites will be relocating to a new integrated service super hub at Gillingham.
