Planning Enforcement Officer needed!
£35 per hour
Forde House, TQ12
Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm
Till June 2026
Candidate needs access to own vehicle and is ideally local but available at least 2 days per week locally
On those days they will be required to attend the office and visit sites. Admin can be done remotely once trained.
Job Purpose
To assist in the investigation, monitoring and enforcement of planning legislation, to contribute to the processing of related planning applications and answering correspondence and enquiries.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
(a) Investigating and reporting on complaints relating to planning and development issues, in conjunction with the Business Manager Strategic Place / Principal Planning Officer / Senior Planning Enforcement Officer and others across the Council.
(b) Carrying out site inspections and completing detailed investigations of planning records and site histories. Monitoring compliance with planning conditions and approved plans, including updating records of complaints
and appropriate action taken on the databases. Taking statements in accordance with PACE requirements
(c) Preparing reports to Committee and attending as and when required by the Business Manager Strategic Place / Principal Planning Officer / Senior Planning Enforcement Officer.
(d) Preparing statements and compiling evidence for enforcement appeals.
(e) Providing planning advice to the general public and responding to a wide range of enquiries on planning and enforcement matters and providing assistance and advice to colleagues, as required by the Business Manager Strategic Place / Principal Planning Officer / Senior Planning Enforcement Officer.
(f) Maintaining and enhancing close liaison on enforcement and related issues with members of the public, Parish / Town Councils, elected Members, other departments, other authorities and outside bodies.
(g) Occasionally handling a range of planning applications and appeals, arising from investigation of complaints and other applications as required by the Business Manager Strategic Place / Principal Planning Officer / Senior Planning Enforcement Officer, including any subsequent appeals.
(h) Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time in accordance with the grade and responsibilities of the post.
