<h1>Mechanical Maintenance Engineer</h1>Location: BirminghamHours: Monday-Friday, shifts between 07:00-19:00 (8am-4pm or 11am-7pm)<h2>About the Role</h2>We're looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy facilities engineering team responsible for maintaining a large, complex estate. You'll be delivering planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across a range of buildings, ensuring systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a technically varied environment and enjoys working independently while contributing to a wider engineering team.<h2>Key Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Carry out planned preventative maintenance, testing, and reactive repairs on mechanical systems and plant.</li><li>Diagnose and repair faults on equipment including AHUs, FCUs, boilers, calorifiers, and general plantroom assets.</li><li>Work from technical drawings, specifications, and instructions without supervision.</li><li>Maintain plant rooms, workshops, and working environments to a high standard.</li><li>Record all work accurately using CAFM systems (e.g., Maximo or similar).</li><li>Support the development of safe systems of work and comply with all relevant regulations, including HTMs, Health &amp; Safety legislation, and internal procedures.</li><li>Work safely at height using MEWPs, scaffolding, ladders, and other access equipment (training provided).</li><li>Respond to instructions via radio/PDA and adapt to changing priorities throughout the day.</li><li>Provide technical support to colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement across the engineering team.</li><li>Undertake training to work towards AP/CP responsibilities in areas such as medical gases, pressure systems, water, or ventilation.</li></ul><h2>What You'll Bring</h2><ul><li>City &amp; Guilds (or equivalent) Mechanical Engineering qualifications.</li><li>Completed indentured apprenticeship or equivalent training.</li><li>Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems and plant.</li><li>Experience in a healthcare or PFI environment is beneficial but not essential.</li><li>Ability to work independently, interpret technical information, and solve problems effectively.</li><li>A proactive, open‑minded approach to learning new skills and supporting team performance.</li><li>Strong commitment to safe working practices and compliance.</li></ul><h2>What's on Offer</h2><ul><li>A stable, long‑term role within a large, multi‑disciplinary engineering team.</li><li>Ongoing training and development, including opportunities to gain AP/CP responsibilities.</li><li>A varied and technically interesting environment with real scope to grow your skills.</li><li>Supportive team culture focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.</li></ul> Blue Arrow is proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to helping find great work opportunities for great people.
