<h1><strong>Job Advert: Gardener / Chargehand</strong></h1><p><strong>Pay Rate:</strong> £13.05 per hour</p><p><strong>Grade:</strong> 4</p><p><strong>Location:</strong> Newport</p><p><strong>DBS Required:</strong> No</p><hr /><h2><strong>About the Role</strong></h2><p>A Gardener / Chargehand is required to carry out a wide range of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties. The role involves maintaining outdoor spaces to a high standard and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with service requirements.</p><hr /><h2><strong>Shifts &amp; Hours</strong></h2><ul><li><strong>Monday to Friday</strong></li><li><strong>Shift options:</strong> 6:00-14:00 or 07:00-15:00</li><li>Occasional flexibility may be required depending on service demands</li></ul><hr /><h2><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h2><h3><strong>Grounds Maintenance &amp; Horticulture</strong></h3><ul><li>Grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, and clearing leaves and litter</li><li>Planting bedding plants, shrubs, and trees</li><li>Shrub‑bed maintenance including pruning, dividing, and replanting</li><li>Application of chemicals (following appropriate training/qualifications)</li><li>Setting out and maintaining sports facilities</li><li>General soft landscaping including top‑soiling, cultivation, seeding, and shrub‑bed renewal</li></ul><h3><strong>Tools, Equipment &amp; Vehicles</strong></h3><ul><li>Operate and take responsibility for vehicles, machinery, and equipment</li><li>Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working condition</li><li>Comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Road Traffic Regulations</li><li>Report equipment defects to a line manager</li></ul><h3><strong>Health &amp; Safety</strong></h3><ul><li>Take reasonable care of personal safety and the safety of others</li><li>Follow all relevant health and safety procedures</li><li>Report incidents, accidents, faults, and near‑misses promptly</li></ul><hr /><h2><strong>About You</strong></h2><p>The ideal candidate will:</p><ul><li>Have experience in horticulture or grounds maintenance</li><li>Be competent using grounds maintenance machinery</li><li>Work effectively both independently and within a team</li><li>Be reliable, proactive, and capable of delivering high‑quality work</li><li>Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions</li><li><strong>Hold a full UK driving licence</strong> (required)</li></ul><hr /><h2><strong>What's Offered</strong></h2><ul><li>Hourly rate: £13.05</li><li>Supportive working environment</li><li>Training and development opportunities</li><li>A role with visible impact on outdoor environments</li></ul><h1> </h1><p>Blue Arrow is proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to helping find great work opportunities for great people.</p>
