About the Role

A Gardener / Chargehand is required to carry out a wide range of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties. The role involves maintaining outdoor spaces to a high standard and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with service requirements.

Shifts & Hours

• Monday to Friday
• Shift options: 6:00-14:00 or 07:00-15:00
• Occasional flexibility may be required depending on service demands

Key Responsibilities

Grounds Maintenance & Horticulture

• Grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, and clearing leaves and litter
• Planting bedding plants, shrubs, and trees
• Shrub‑bed maintenance including pruning, dividing, and replanting
• Application of chemicals (following appropriate training/qualifications)
• Setting out and maintaining sports facilities
• General soft landscaping including top‑soiling, cultivation, seeding, and shrub‑bed renewal

Tools, Equipment & Vehicles

• Operate and take responsibility for vehicles, machinery, and equipment
• Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working condition
• Comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Road Traffic Regulations
• Report equipment defects to a line manager

Health & Safety

• Take reasonable care of personal safety and the safety of others
• Follow all relevant health and safety procedures
• Report incidents, accidents, faults, and near‑misses promptly

About You

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience in horticulture or grounds maintenance
• Be competent using grounds maintenance machinery
• Work effectively both independently and within a team
• Be reliable, proactive, and capable of delivering high‑quality work
• Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Hold a full UK driving licence (required)
