Technical Skills Coach / Trainer - Electrical

Salary: Support Staff Scale (L)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Full-time

Location: Multi‑site role

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Technical Skills Coach / Electrical Trainer to support and develop apprentices on an established Electrical Apprenticeship Programme. You will play a key role in guiding apprentices through their training journey-delivering high‑quality skills coaching, mentoring, assessment, and preparing them for successful End Point Assessment (EPA).

This role is ideal for someone with strong industry knowledge, a passion for developing others, and the ability to build positive relationships with apprentices and employers.

Key Responsibilities

Apprentice Coaching & Support

  • Manage a caseload of apprentices, delivering high‑quality skills coaching aligned to apprenticeship standards.
  • Provide mentoring, assessment, and constructive feedback to support timely progression towards EPA Gateway.
  • Offer additional support to apprentices who require extra guidance.
  • Maintain regular communication with apprentices and employers, ensuring full engagement throughout the programme.

Progress Monitoring & Reviews

  • Conduct progress reviews every 10-12 weeks, discussing achievements, concerns, and readiness for Gateway.
  • Track development of skills, knowledge, and behaviours in line with apprenticeship requirements.
  • Support initial assessments and establish realistic start and planned end dates.

Learning Support & Compliance

  • Work with Additional Learner Support teams to document and implement support needs.
  • Ensure employers understand on‑ and off‑the‑job training requirements.
  • Monitor and track off‑the‑job training hours to meet audit and compliance standards.

Systems & Communication

  • Use Microsoft Teams and e‑portfolio systems for communication, assessment, and progress tracking.
  • Maintain accurate apprentice records using approved systems (e.g., EBS, Pro‑Achieve, e‑portfolio platforms).
  • Liaise with EPAOs and stay up to date with apprenticeship and EPA developments.
  • Work collaboratively with the central Apprenticeship team to ensure consistent information sharing.

General Duties

  • Support a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, equality, and data protection policies.
  • Engage in CPD to maintain up‑to‑date industry and educational knowledge.
  • Undertake duties appropriate to the role as required.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Level 2 English
  • Level 2 Maths
  • Relevant degree and/or vocational qualification
  • 18th Edition & AM2/AM2S
  • Level 3 Electrical Diploma (e.g., 2365, 8202, 2330, 2360)
  • PTLLS and A1/CAVA (or equivalent)
  • Teaching qualification (CET, DET, DTLLS) or willingness to work towards

Desirable Qualifications

  • Assessor Award (A1 or equivalent)

Experience

  • Experience working with apprentices and employers.
  • Experience with awarding bodies, EPAOs, and curriculum teams.
  • Experience supporting learners with varying abilities and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and managing the learning process.

Skills & Attributes

  • Highly organised, methodical, and adaptable.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, including team teaching.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
