<h1><strong>Mechanical Engineering Technician (SO2)</strong></h1><p><strong>Location:</strong> Derry/Londonderry and/or Omagh</p><p><strong>Hours:</strong> 36.25 per week (Mon-Fri)</p><p><strong>Rate:</strong> £19.72 per hour (SP26)</p><p><strong>Contract:</strong> Up to 6 months, with possible extension</p><hr /><h2><strong>About the Role</strong></h2><p>Our client is seeking a skilled <strong>Mechanical Engineering Technician</strong> to support the maintenance, repair, servicing, and safe operation of our specialist emergency response vehicles and equipment. This role is essential to ensuring operational readiness across the region.</p><hr /><h2><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h2><ul><li>Repair, maintain, diagnose faults, and overhaul specialist fire and rescue vehicles and equipment.</li><li>Conduct <strong>PSV/MOT inspections</strong> and certify vehicles as roadworthy.</li><li>Perform electrical diagnostics, 110v/240v repairs, PAT testing, and electronic fault finding.</li><li>Carry out fabrication, welding (MIG/TIG/ARC), bodywork repairs, and hydraulic system maintenance.</li><li>Respond to roadside repairs, support operational incidents, and work at heights on aerial appliances.</li><li>Participate in the <strong>on-call rota</strong>, making independent repair decisions out of hours.</li><li>Operate and record data on the MIS system and MAHA PSV/MOT testing lane.</li><li>Manage stock, tools, parts, and workshop consumables in line with the procedures used.</li><li>Support firefighters with technical guidance and assist in supervising apprentices.</li><li>Maintain compliance with the policies used, safety standards, vehicle legislation, and audit requirements.</li><li>Liaise with manufacturers, support investigations, and contribute to continuous improvement.</li></ul><hr /><h2><strong>What We're Looking For</strong></h2><p>A proactive, skilled engineer with experience working on heavy/specialist vehicles, strong electrical and mechanical capability, and confidence working independently in demanding environments.</p><hr /><h2><strong>Apply now!</strong></h2><p> </p><p>Blue Arrow is proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to helping find great work opportunities for great people.</p>
