Mobile Caretaker

Location : Derby, DE1

37 hours, £13.26 p/hr, Fixed Term until End of March 2026, 7am - 3pm daily.

Are you practical, reliable, and confident carrying out hands‑on maintenance tasks? We are looking for a Mobile Caretaker on behalf of our client to ensure that multiple buildings remain safe, clean, and well‑maintained for staff and visitors.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, takes pride in maintaining safe environments, and is comfortable working independently across varied sites.

About the Role

As a Mobile Caretaker, you will carry out routine safety checks, minor repairs, and general caretaking duties to maintain the smooth and safe operation of several buildings. You will respond to on‑site issues, support health and safety requirements, and help ensure facilities remain in good working order.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Carry out minor repairs, such as fixing door handles, replacing light tubes, unblocking waste pipes, and adjusting basic fittings.
  • Report major faults or defects to the appropriate contact for further action.
  • Support the safe operation of heating and building systems, reporting any issues when needed.
  • Complete routine safety tasks, including:
    • Testing fire alarms and emergency lighting
    • Checking emergency exits and fire equipment
    • Conducting basic water hygiene tests
  • Identify and report defects such as boundary issues, storm damage, or hazards around buildings.
  • Test panic alarms and check security/automatic doors for correct operation.
  • Carry out snow and ice clearance during adverse weather to maintain safe access routes.
  • Keep external areas tidy, including litter picking, sweeping paths, and cleaning gullies.
  • Support internal cleaning where required, including carpet cleaning and occasional emergency clean‑ups.
  • Safely collect and dispose of sharps using appropriate protective equipment.
  • Escort contractors on-site and ensure proper permit procedures are followed.
  • Act as an emergency key holder and attend out‑of‑hours incidents when needed.
  • Take monthly gas, water, and electricity meter readings.
  • Carry out additional tasks associated with facilities support as required.

About You

You will be someone who:

  • Is confident with basic repairs and maintenance
  • Has a practical, problem‑solving approach
  • Is reliable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently
  • Understands basic health and safety requirements
  • Is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
  • Communicates professionally with staff, visitors, and contractors
  • Is willing to respond to occasional out‑of‑hours call‑outs

Experience in caretaking, maintenance, or facilities work is beneficial but not essential.

What This Role Offers

  • A varied and active role where no two days are the same
  • Opportunities to develop skills in maintenance, facilities support, and building safety
  • A supportive working environment with scope for independence
  • A meaningful role keeping buildings safe, secure, and well‑maintained.

Blue Arrow is proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to helping find great work opportunities for great people.
