Maintenance Support Technician

Locations: Luton & Watford (multi‑site role) Reports to: HR Manager

A well‑established care provider is seeking a proactive Maintenance Support Technician to ensure its properties across Luton and Watford remain safe, well‑maintained and welcoming. This is a hands‑on, varied role ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, problem‑solving and taking ownership of day‑to‑day maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities

General Maintenance

  • General repairs including basic carpentry, plumbing and decorating
  • Routine equipment and H&S checks, maintaining the Maintenance Handbook
  • Minor repairs to fixtures and fittings
  • Carpet shampooing as directed
  • Proactive improvement suggestions to enhance buildings and grounds
  • Driving the minibus when required
  • Internal/external window cleaning within H&S guidelines
  • Monitoring the Medicare system
  • Monthly Health & Safety audits

Outdoor & Grounds Care

  • Grounds maintenance: mowing, aeration, weeding, pruning, flower beds
  • Seasonal clearing of leaves, snow, ice and moss
  • Routine maintenance of grass‑cutting machinery
  • Keeping external areas clean and tidy to a high standard
  • Regular litter bin emptying
  • Drain and gully clearing

Deliveries & Logistics

  • Receiving deliveries of post, materials and supplies
  • Distributing goods across sites with accurate record‑keeping

Painting, Decorating & Room Preparation

  • Safe movement of furniture/equipment in line with manual handling regulations
  • Preparing and decorating rooms, lounges and corridors
  • Cleaning spillages promptly and safely

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience in basic building repairs and grounds maintenance
  • Strong ability to prioritise tasks
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
  • Willingness to undertake training and apply relevant regulations
  • Ability to operate mechanical/electrical systems
  • Clear, effective communication skills
  • Physically capable of regular lifting and carrying
  • Able to work independently across multiple sites
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • City & Guilds qualification
  • Time‑served apprenticeship
  • H&S Level 2 or 3 certificate
  • NVQ in construction
  • Current First Aid certificate
