The Role

We are seeking an experienced Deputy Head of Catering to join our team at a reputable Contract Catering Site. Working alongside another Deputy Head of Catering, you will support the Head of Catering in delivering a professional, high-quality catering service. You will play a key role in maintaining standards, ensuring compliance, and meeting agreed objectives for the location.

Responsible for: Shift Supervisors, Hospitality Assistants


Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Management

  • Ensure all Health & Safety and food safety procedures are understood and followed by the team.
  • Maintain accurate records and compliance with statutory regulations, including COSHH and allergen management.
  • Conduct risk assessments and monitor hygiene standards.
  • Report accidents and near misses promptly and maintain equipment in good working order.

Team Leadership

  • Support the Head of Catering in managing day-to-day operations and staff performance.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and ensure shift coverage.
  • Lead and motivate the front-of-house team to deliver exceptional service.
  • Oversee staff training, inductions, and appraisals, ensuring compliance with safer recruitment practices.

Service Delivery

  • Ensure high standards of food presentation and service at all times.
  • Manage hospitality bookings and oversee functions to agreed standards.
  • Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements where necessary.
  • Maintain strict adherence to allergen and dietary requirements.

Financial Management

  • Assist with payroll, budgeting, and cost control in line with financial targets.
  • Manage staff rotas and monitor labour costs.
  • Support the Head of Catering with financial reporting and procurement processes.

Customer Experience & Innovation

  • Maintain strong relationships with the Site and respond to changing customer needs.
  • Introduce new service styles and food concepts to keep menus fresh and engaging.
  • Support marketing initiatives and themed events to enhance the dining experience.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in catering management within education or contract catering.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety, food hygiene, and allergen management.
  • Ability to manage budgets and deliver outstanding customer service.
