We are seeking a committed and capable Environmental Health Officer to join our client's team on a temporary basis. This role is vital in maintaining community well being by tackling nuisance and anti-social behaviour across the city.
Job Opportunity: Environmental Health Officer
Contract Duration: 17th November 2025 - March 2026
Hourly Rate: £16.35
Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time, Hybrid
Location: Exeter, Devon
Shifts: Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm
Main Purpose of the Role
* Investigate complaints and incidents related to nuisance (e.g. drainage, noise, fly-tipping, refuse issues) and anti-social behaviour.
* Support victims and complainants while working with partner agencies to develop preventative and diversionary measures.
* Provide out-of-hours and emergency response support as part of the wider service team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Handle complaints from referral to resolution, including mediation, enforcement, and legal action.
* Issue Fixed Penalty Notices for environmental offences.
* Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, and community partners to address concerns.
* Signpost individuals to appropriate support services when vulnerabilities are identified.
* Prepare and enforce legal notices; attend court proceedings as required.
* Collect and present robust evidence, including witness statements and interviews under caution.
* Assist with environmental monitoring, outbreaks, and emergency situations.
* Stay informed on relevant legislation and technical developments.
* Participate in regular out-of-hours work to investigate complaints.
* Perform any other duties appropriate to the role.
What We're Looking For
* Degree or diploma in Environmental Health or equivalent.
* Experience in nuisance and anti-social behaviour investigations.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage sensitive cases.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and enforcement procedures.
