Street Scene Operative

Are you practical, reliable, and ready to make a visible difference in your community? We're seeking a Street Scene Operative to support environmental services across the borough. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and contributing to cleaner, safer public spaces.

Job Role: Street Scene Operative

Location: Darlington

Contract Type: Temporary - 2 months (with likely extension)

Pay Rate: £12.85 per hour (PAYE)

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (working 07.30 to 15.30 Monday to Thursday 07.30 to 15.00 on a Friday)

Key Responsibilities:

• Emptying litter and dog waste bins across designated routes.
• Clearing back lanes and public areas of waste, debris and leaves.
• Providing rapid response to issues such as fly tipping and dog fouling.
• Operating equipment and vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Supporting general grounds maintenance and street cleansing tasks.
• Engaging courteously with members of the public when required.

Requirements:

• Ability to carry out manual handling and physical outdoor work.
• Experience using relevant tools and equipment (training provided if needed).
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
• Willingness to work in varying weather conditions.
• A full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
