📌 Role Overview
- Job Title: Sous Chef
- Location: Cambridge
- Reports To: Head Chef
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week (excluding breaks)
- Salary: £36,900 per annum
- Plus paid overtime
- Plus non-contractual bonus (subject to eligibility)
- Holidays: 34 days annual leave (inclusive of public holidays)
- Pension: Defined contributory scheme
- 3% employee / 6% employer contributions
- Option to increase contributions annually (up to 7% employee / 14% employer)

👨‍🍳 Key Responsibilities
- Lead kitchen shifts and supervise staff in preparing and serving food to Fellows, guests, students, and staff
- Ensure efficient kitchen operations, minimising costs and energy usage
- Maintain compliance with food safety and health & safety legislation
- Assist in menu planning and development of cyclic menus
- Submit food orders and manage stock rotation
- Promote the use of fresh produce and ensure dishes meet agreed recipes
- Monitor food presentation and service standards across all serveries
- Brief food service staff on menu content and conduct regular service checks
- Support training and development of kitchen brigade, including competition-level preparation
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to plan and problem-solve
- Respond professionally to emergencies and uphold safety protocols
- Undertake additional duties as required to support the Head Chef and wider team

✅ Person Specification
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Professional Cookery
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- HACCP and COSHH training
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role
- Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal abilities
- Understanding of HACCP and food safety standards
- Experience in a college or institutional setting (desirable)

- Able to communicate effectively with colleagues and senior management
- Willing to work weekends and overtime as required
