* Till October 2025 with the possibility of extension

Lead and direct the work of the team, to ensure the statutory responsibilities of the Council are performed in a co-ordinated and customer-focussed way that reflects the Council's corporate objectives and achieves published policies, programmes, objectives and performance targets.

Ensure effective liaison and close working between your team and other service units, to ensure new development will achieve high standards of design, layout, and landscaping, and meets the Council's housing, environmental, transportation and sustainability objectives.

Ensure efficient and effective performance of the team functions, reviewing regularly and making any necessary recommendations for change.

Recruit, manage, motivate and develop employees in the service area, ensuring their health, safety and well-being at work, in order to ensure all aspects of service delivery are provided to the highest possible standard.

Ensure that your team produces professional and technically robust reports. Attend Council, Committee and other public meetings as required. Be the lead professional officer in high profile and sensitive cases as directed by the Development Management Service Manager and the Assistant Director (Planning).

Monitor workloads and throughput of all case officers in the Team (including external consultants) and keep performance under review particularly with regard to the targets and objectives set out in the annual Service Plan.

Actively engage with the Directors, Assistant Directors and Service Managers to address corporate and community issues and identify imaginative solutions.

Deputise for the Development Management Service Manager as required including preparation of the Committee agenda and presentation of cases at Committee and be a member of the Planning Management Team.

To supervise, mentor and assist subordinate staff, as appropriate.
