Industrial 2 - Plant Testing
Location: AFBI Crossnacreevy Research Farm
Rate of Pay: £12.97 per hour
Eligibility Criteria:
- 2 GCSEs including English Language and Maths (Grades A*-C) or equivalent or higher
- Minimum of 6 months demonstrable relevant experience
- Full UK Driving Licence
Role Overview:
You will work on the AFBI Crossnacreevy research farm, which specialises in trials of wheat, barley, oats, and grasses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sowing cereal and grass plots
- Preparing ground for sowing (ploughing, power harrowing, rolling)
- Spraying of plots, burn lines and interrow spraying
- Hedge cutting in field and onsite
- General yard maintenance (power washing, edging grass, strimming, tidying sheds)
- General machinery maintenance (servicing, changing wearing metal, greasing, preparation for winter housing)
- Cutting surrounds/pathway grass with industrial mower/flail mower
- Working with scientific teams on various projects to complete essential research work
- This list is not exhaustive and can be added to during the role
- During busy periods staff may be required to stay late to complete project work
Essential Experience:
- Some experience in ploughing, spraying, sowing, and combining preferred
- PA1 and PA2a certification highly desirable
Other Desirable Skills:
- Experience operating a range of farm machinery
- Knowledge of crop husbandry in an agricultural setting
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Attention to detail and adaptability
