JOB SUMMARY/MAIN PURPOSE:

• To assist in the provision of an efficient and effective Dental and maxillofacial radiography service within the X-ray Department, School of Dentistry and RVH Imaging Centre

• To participate in the Dental Radiography Education Programme

Main Duites:

CLINICAL

1. To participate in the provision of a Regional Dental and Maxillofacial Imaging Service by performing highly specialised intra oral, extra oral, maxillofacial and cephalometric radiography as required

2. To undertake all duties unsupervised

3. To participate in the provision of Sialography sessions in the Imaging Centre, RVH

4. To assess patient condition (medical, physical and emotional) and modify technique and patient management accordingly

5. To evaluate images in order to assess the quality, the need for additional images and to consult with the referring clinician re alternative techniques

6. To be responsible for the safe use of expensive and highly complex Imaging equipment

7. To undertake Forensic Radiography for Identification purposes as part of the Regional Forensic Odontology team

PROFESSIONAL

1. To maintain high radiographic and professional standards in the performance of examinations

2. To act as an IR(ME)R Operator to carry out dental radiographic examinations following Departmental protocols (under new Employers Procedures currently being approved)

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

1. To participate in the delivery of the Dental Radiography Education programme for Undergraduate Dentists and Radiographers, and other Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) as required

2. To undertake tutorials and practical demonstrations to students from various disciplines as required.

3. To participate in Post-graduate Dental Radiography courses for Dentists, Radiographers and DCPs within the trust and for external organisations as required

Experience

Evidence of interest in dental radiography

Qualifications/ Registration

BSc Radiography or equivalent qualification.

HCPC registration

Other

Interest in teaching Dental/Maxillofacial Radiography as a specialist skill to undergraduate and postgraduate students and DCPs
