Waste Operations Supervisor
Location: Carrickfergus
Hours: 37 hours per week (flexibility required for weekends, evenings, and public holidays)
Contract: Immediate start, 6-month initial contract
Pay Rate: £20.66 per hour
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Waste Operations Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day delivery of waste and cleansing services. This includes refuse collection, commercial waste, kerbside recycling, street cleansing, bulky collections, deliveries, public conveniences, and other cleaning operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operational delivery of waste and cleansing services.
- Schedule workloads, allocate tasks, monitor progress, and report on efficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and legislative requirements, promoting safety and good governance.
- Support technical development of Waste Services, including fleet management and recycling initiatives.
- Liaise with Transport Management to maintain vehicles and plant.
- Organize staff training for vehicles, plant, and equipment; identify training needs.
- Handle cash for collected monies as required.
- Prepare reports for the Operations Manager and assist in service delivery improvements.
- Develop risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work, and investigate incidents where necessary.
- Deliver Toolbox Talks and ensure staff understanding and compliance.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must clearly demonstrate the following on their CV:
- Qualifications: Degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g., Management Practice or Environmental Service).
- Experience:
- Two years' experience managing an operational service delivering successful outcomes (or four years if no degree).
- At least one year (or four years if no degree) in:
- Operational supervision in a waste environment.
- Successful supervision of operational staff.
- Achieving improvements in a functional area.
- Understanding of key issues impacting waste service delivery.
- Knowledge of local government operations and political context.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
