Occupational Therapy Assistant

£12.31 per hour
Job Summary / Main Purpose
To assist the Occupational Therapist in the assessment and treatment of clients and to carry out other duties that support the delivery of services as necessary.
In response to continued service developments, the post holder will be required to undertake flexible working including extended working and seven day working as determined by operational requirements.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
For each of the following, the postholder will;
- Work independently under the direction / instruction of a qualified occupational therapist to carry out treatment sessions/ interventions with clients. Occupational Therapy intervention will include, but is not restricted to, self-care activities, transfer and mobility practice, domestic activities of daily living, upper limb treatment, wheelchair practice, relaxation, falls education and stroke rehab.
- Prepare equipment & resources for assessment /treatment including setting up and tidying away equipment.
- Observe general behaviour, functional ability and response of clients, during treatment/interventions, and to report and record information, as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English and Maths.
OR
NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
OR
Higher qualifications in a care related subject.
- At least one year's paid experience, working with physically disabled and / or older adults delivering direct client care in a formal care setting.
Have experience in the use of computers programmes, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel
Knowledge /Skills Abilities
- Ability to deal with clients who present challenging behaviour.
- Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy.
- Understanding of the role of other professionals and organisations relevant to the health care setting.
- Awareness of the impact of injury on functional ability
