Location: Newtownards (Covering Ards & North Down and Lisburn & Castlereagh Council areas
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Minimum 4 months subject to review
Rate of Pay: £17.43 per hour
Hours of Work:
- Flexible working hours, including evenings.
- Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (evening work may be offset by time off in lieu).
- Travelling and subsistence will be paid in line with NICS Policy.
Main Duties:
- Operate within the policies and guidelines of the Youth Justice Agency (YJA) as directed by management.
- Support and challenge young people (aged 10-17) in or on the fringes of the Criminal Justice System to desist from offending and improve their life chances.
- Oversee, supervise, and manage Court Orders, Public Prosecution Service Plans, and voluntary arrangements.
- Facilitate Youth Engagement Clinics in partnership with the Police Service for Northern Ireland and the Public Prosecution Service.
- Conduct assessments, including the Youth Justice Agency Assessment, to develop tailored intervention plans addressing risk, vulnerability, and health and safety.
- Undertake Youth Conferences to ensure restorative interventions and incorporate victims' views.
- Work closely with victims, ensuring their voices are heard and their engagement is supported.
- Collaborate with young people, families, communities, and professionals to support positive behavioral change and reduce offending.
- Establish multi-agency and community networks for partnership-based interventions and reintegration of young people.
- Source, risk assess, and manage meaningful Reparative Activity placements.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality oral and written reports for case conferences, reviews, and Courts.
- Maintain accurate records in line with YJA case recording policy.
- Promote and deliver restorative approaches to support young people and engage victims.
- Participate in training, supervision, team meetings, and staff development programs.
- Serve as an Officer of the Court.
- Perform other reasonable duties within the role's scope.
Essential Criteria:
- Qualifications: Degree in Social Work or Degree in Youth and Community Work.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience of:
- Working with young people displaying challenging behavior.
- Writing formal reports.
- Transport: Valid driving license and access to a vehicle for travel, including to remote areas not accessible by public transport.
- Other Requirements:
- Registered with NISCC.
- Warner interview applicable.
