Residential Child Care Worker

£15.33 per hour

Belfast

Shift patterns, including:

  • 07:30 - 21:00
  • 07:30 - 14:00
  • 13:30 - 21:00
  • Wakened night duty: 20:30 - 07:30

The post holder will work as part of a team in providing safe effective person centred and compassionate care for young people who have a learning disability and display behaviours of concern. This role requires the post holder to contribute to the assessment of care needs, which will include all elements of personal care for the young people and the development of care plan, risk assessment and positive behaviour support plan. The role requires the post holder to assist in the management of everyday service delivery through the role of shift co-originator, this requires them to support the staff on duty to plan meaningful and fun activities for the young people outside of their school and family times, ensuring daily tasks are completed, and management of mediation and finances in the home.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Experience /Qualifications /Registration

Possess a relevant University Degree (in areas of social sciences) or Professional Qualification (such as a nursing, Speech and Language, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or teaching) or equivalent relevant Health and Social Care based Third Level qualification.

OR

Possess 2 A Level's at above grade C AND have 2 years' experience equivalent to 16 hours per week in a health and social care role

OR

NVQ/QCF Level 3 Children and Young People Award or equivalent AND have 2 years' experience equivalent to 16 hours per week in a in a health and social care role

OR

Possess 5 GCSE's grades A - C, including English language AND have 3 years' experience equivalent to 16 hours per week in a in a health and social care role

AND

Currently hold (if previously registered must be reregistered before commencement of post the new registration timeframe does not apply) or be eligible for registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council within 3 months of taking up the post

Other (e.g. Driving etc.)

Hold a full license valid in the UK and have the ability to drive Trust vehicles to support the young people.

'Where disability prohibits driving, this criteria will be waived if the applicant is able to organise suitable alternative arrangements'

Experience in the use of IT including at least one of the core packages i.e. Outlook (Email) Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PARIS

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Demonstrate that you are willing and committed to be part of a rota system that requires you to work a rota that covers 24 hrs. per day that is open all year round, this includes working evenings and weekends, bank holidays sleep in duties and possibly night duty, as is appropriate.

Demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively with children, parents/ carers and other professionals within a team and work collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Demonstrate the ability to understand and manage challenging behaviour.

Demonstrate you have an understanding that the role requires you to support the young people in all aspects of their life, full personal care that all behaviour is a form of communication and the role is about promoting quality of life through all interactions with the young people.

Demonstrate your ability to contribute to effective team working.

Demonstrate your leadership skills and ability to lead a team as a shift co-ordinator.

Demonstrate that you are able to use own initiative.

Demonstrate that you are willing to develop own knowledge and practice.

Demonstrate that you are able to work within a physically and emotionally demanding environment.

Have knowledge of The Children's Homes Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 and the Minimum Standards for Children's Homes Version 3 2023 and how it applies to working in a regulated service.
