Blue Arrow Signs Up As A Forces-Friendly Employer

Specialist staffing agency Blue Arrow has pledged its support to the Armed Forces community by signing an Armed Forces Covenant. The Covenant – a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly – was signed by Fraser McLeod, Managing Director for the catering, driving, industrial and office recruiter, at the company’s head office in Luton on Wednesday 2nd November.

Blue Arrow joins a rapidly increasing number of businesses, charitable and public sector organisations to sign the Covenant, which is part of the Ministry of Defence’s ongoing work to support the Forces through services, policy and projects. In signing the Covenant, institutions make their own promises on how they will demonstrate their support.

Fraser McLeod, Managing Director, said: “We know that many servicemen and women find the transition from the military to a civilian life difficult, not least when it comes to finding a new job. Their skills are not always appreciated or even recognised when it comes to starting a new career.”

With around 14,000 skilled and experienced individuals leaving the Armed Forces each year McLeod added: “This public pledge between Blue Arrow and the Ministry of Defence solidifies our commitment to changing perceptions, to helping businesses understand the value that serving personnel can contribute to their organisations.”

Thanks to initiatives like the Armed Forces Covenant, perceptions are changing. Indeed, Blue Arrow is now one of over 1,200 organisations to sign up, and this number has grown rapidly during the last three years.

Co-signing the Covenant, Captain Duncan Forer, of the Royal Navy, said:

“We are delighted that Blue Arrow is joining the growing list of companies that value the skills and talents of our Armed Forces personnel and the contribution that they can make to the workplace.  Their Armed Forces Covenant signing is a significant step in developing a strong relationship with Defence and making a real difference to all those who serve or have served the country.”
