Logistics Manager - Proven Experience Essential for this Role

PAYE £150 per day / LTD Co £200 per day

Contract: 6 months with option to extend for further 6 months

Purpose of the Post
The purpose of the role is to develop and deliver a fit for purpose operating model, reflecting industry best practice, for the College's stores, logistics and receipting operations across all sites.  

Responsible for ensuring that the right products are receipted, stored and delivered to users in College departments on time, to the quality required and in the most cost effective way.  

To manage and oversee the inventory management system for goods and materials across College locations and to have responsibility for all store areas making sure they comply with health and safety regulations and other related issues and legislation.  

The scope of the work covers the stores, goods in and logistics operation and the operational touch points with the Procure to Pay function, across all College sites (10 sites in total) into the logistics design options.

Procura seeks to deliver more efficient, effective and high quality P2P services required to support a world-class university. The principle aims are to reduce duplicated effort and inefficient processes to better support the College's mission while meeting the needs and expectations of staff and students.

Key Responsibilities
To design a standard operating model for logistics and management of goods and services across all of our stores and goods in facilities, replicating good practice where it exists across the College.  

To design and plan a College-wide best practice and frictionless receipting, stores and on-ward delivery service that ensures accuracy and quality of supplies at all times and is in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.  

Investigate and define service / business problems and associated processes. Collect and analyse key findings and make recommendations to senior staff.  

To develop a resource plan required to support the change and deliver the artefacts required to support the improved customer service.  

Present solutions and recommendations to the project and senior College stakeholders.  

Monitor the progress against the plan and provide regular reports to the Procura Project Manager, Sponsor and Project Board, to meet programme quality standards.  

Provide professional logistics advice to the Procura project: Improve logistics to enable an improved back and front of house process for the flow of goods in and out of all College sites and reduce/ eliminate deliveries into building reception areas.  

Improve inventory management and implement measures to eliminate redundant stock: Undertake a gap analysis to quantify the opportunity that exists from order consolidation and inventory reduction, across some departments through sharing of common lab items and make recommendations.  

Undertake an in-depth analysis into all current stores operations and inventory holdings and make recommendations to improve the current service.

Introduce and implement improved processes and systems including RFID scanning / barcoding for both receiving and end user collection to enable effective controls for goods receipting.  

Explore the potential for use of onward delivery services and the option to outsource goods receiving process and onward delivery to a 3rd party logistics provider.  

Work closely with the Operational Excellence team on delivering a proof of concept for shared operations and implement a hub model for goods-in/stores to accommodate adjacent departments.

Review and implement logistics policies, procedures and customer service guides and make recommendations for updates.  

Promptly report any the risks and issues to the project manager  

To attend internal / external meetings to support work activities/represent the project / department.

Management of staff:
To manage College stores and receipting staff and/or third party staff.

To set standards and objectives for all staff and make sure they are met in line with the College's needs.

Review the development of staff on a regular basis keeping suitable records of training, meetings, and sickness and absence levels as required.

Ensure health and safety requirements are followed and risk assessments are carried out for all store and receipting areas.

Ensure PPE is available to staff and that manual handling training and guidance is undertaken at regular intervals to ensure that compliance with all relevant health and safety is in place for the handling of all products that are delivered to the College.
