General Porter/Security opportunities

Urgent requirements for ongoing temporary work at Papworth Hospital

Must be able to do shift rota of 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm and 8am-4pm - Monday to Friday.

£9.03 per hour. £12.98 for nights and Saturday. £16.41 Sunday and bank holidays

To work as a member of a the portering team providing a comprehensive service

To include, ambulance duties, post round, pharmacy, Car Parking key holder, fire alarm bleep holder and security duties  within the trust.

1. Communication/Customer Service and Teamworking

To ensure collection and deliveries of Pharmacy Boxes to wards

To deliver out of hours Pharmacy items including controlled drugs.

To deliver fluids to all ward as required

Responsible for the removal of Clinical/Domestic waste and dirty linen from all Wards and Departments.

Responsible for the disposal of waste using the compactor and Cardboard Bailer.

To be responsible for the delivery of stores in and around the site to all departments.

To be responsible for the delivery of patient food and the removal/disposal of food waste from all Wards and Departments.

To be responsible for the delivery of clean linen to all Wards and Departments.

Responsible for the removal of the deceased from Wards and taking them to the Mortuary.

To be responsible for collecting microbiology and pathology specimens and delivery of results to wards..

To be responsible for collection of car parking cash boxes, changing of till rolls in Parking machines, clearing of jambs and minor problems etc. Car Parking duties including ticketing and helping staff and public with parking issues.


When on duty, to carry out Security checks and /or patrols  as necessary using good practice in patrolling, in order to prevent arson or criminal damage

Assist in situations involving, Trespassers, Intruders and distressed persons.

Assist in the search for missing patients

Carry out all Security duties including lockups in a manner to preserve safety to all.

Respond to all fire alarms as key holder assist management/fire service with incident.

Any other reasonable management request.


2. Planning and Organising

To organise the daily ambulance sheet and be responsible for the safe

Transfer of all patients from one area to another by ambulance.

Ensure that the ambulance is kept in a clean and tidy condition

To assist with general Portering duties on Wards and Departments

To be responsible for the transfer and safe connection of Gas Cylinders between main Cylinder store and specified Wards, when required.

To attend all fire calls when rostered to do so

Collect and deliver internal and external mail to all wards and departments including X-Rays Patient's Notes and. Flowers

Sort all incoming and outgoing mail into identified pigeonholes

Frank all outgoing mail.

To assist with car parking issues as required

To relieve other members of Portering staff (including night staff) during periods of sickness and annual leave as requested by Operational Support Team
