THE ROLE
Our public sector client is recruiting for a Clerical Officer. The role will be responsible for carrying out a full range of clerical, secretarial, administrative and customer service duties. The role is for a six month temporary contract with potential extension.
Hours of work are 9am - 5pm.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provision of general word processing, typing, administrative and secretarial services.
2. Administration of computer systems such as databases, spreadsheets, local software packages.
3. Assisting with the provision of an efficient customer service and dealing with written and verbal enquiries from the public as required in accordance with Council Customer Care standards. Record all incoming and outgoing mail.
4. Assisting with the development, implementation and maintenance of office systems and procedures. Maintenance and reconciliation of office stock levels e.g. stationery, sundries.
5. Processing financial items and transactions in accordance with Council procedures.
6. Ensure compliance with Council policies and procedures including all Health & Safety protocols and operate within the highest standards of management and personal behaviour, which reflect the core values and behaviours of the organisation.
7. Promote equality of opportunity and access in service delivery and in the employment of staff through the mainstreaming of equality within the Council.
8. Ensure the provision of high standards of customer care across all the services provided by the Unit and promote and manage the service effectively and communicate in a way, which enhances and promotes the public image and overall reputation of the Council.
9. Develop and enhance working relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders to maximise corporate and community planning outcomes and to generate innovation in service delivery.
THE PERSON
Our client is looking for an organised individual who can manage their own workload, maintain structure and prioritise. The individual should have excellent communication skills and a customer focused outlook on their work. Someone who is motivated and continually committed to improving their performance would prove successful in the role.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
1. 5 GCSE passes at Grade A-C, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent*
2. At least 6 months' employment experience in an office environment to include word processing. If you do not meet the criteria listed in point one, then three years office experience is required.
DESIREABLE CRITERIA
1. A working knowledge of word processing, Excel and the internet.
2. 6 months' experience in an office environment to include word processing experience in a construction related environment.
