To help maintain the high standard of portering services, we are currently recruiting for porters to help with the mobility of patients and equipment around the hospital. No experience required as full training will be provided. Ideal candidates will be able to work as part of a team to provide a reactive and flexible service to enhance the Porters Department in all areas across the hospital site. Shift work will be required and you must hold a valid Driving Licence in order to apply for the role and be willing to undergo DBS checks.
The safe movement of:
* Patients (adults, children and babies)
* Mail
* Medical records
* Pharmacy supplies
* Blood units and pathology specimens
* Sterile supplies
* Patient meals
* Confidential waste
* Domestic Waste
* Clinical and cytotoxic waste
* Linen
Between areas as required in accordance with departmental and manual handling procedures.
Undertake related portering duties in assigned departments as required in accordance with correct procedures.
Replenish medical gas supply, connection to system, check flometers/gauges and change gas banks in accordance with correct health and safety procedures.
Collection of pathology specimens, containers and units of blood as and when required in accordance with safe handling procedures.
Transfer of pharmacy supplies, fluids and emergency equipment as required.
Undertake non-routine Portering duties such as office and equipment movement, escort duties and the retrieval/movement of patient notes and x-rays.
Demonstrate own duties to new starters/agency staff/bank staff.
Communicate and respond appropriately to patients/clients displaying challenging behaviour.
Be aware of and observe national and local guidelines on patient and data confidentiality.
Movement of furniture/equipment as directed.
Collection from clinical area and transfer to Mortuary of deceased patients (adults, children and babies) to include completion of appropriate documentation and registration of personal items.
The role is temporary ongoing and will be for a minimum of 1 month if you pass all required compliance checks. Shifts will vary and will include weekends. Hours are generally 07.30 - 15.00 or the other shift is 14.00 - 22.00. Pay rates are £9.03 per hour with weekends paid at overtime rate. Please note you may be required to work on wards where there are COVID positive patients so you must be prepared to do this in applying for this role.
