Job Title: Deputy Housekeeper over two sites - interim post
Hourly rate: £10.77 per hour
Hours: Full Time - 35 hours per week, any 5 days out of 7 (some weekend work will be required) 7am - 2.30pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break
Reports to: Reporting to the Housekeeper in the first instance or the Accommodation Manager
To manage the allocated College sites with oversight from the Housekeeper. This will include ensuring cleanliness of all rooms; dealing with staff and student enquiries; managing staffing allocation during staff holiday and other absences, including recommending to the Accommodation Manager if temporary staff are required; allocating work and supervising standards of work; identifying the need for staff training, monitoring performance and providing training as required.
There is currently an enhanced cleaning regime in place and not all of the duties listed below will be performed during the interim period.

1. To be the first point of contact for all Scouts at allocated sites and to deal with the day-to-day daily operation of both sites.
2. In liaison with the Housekeeper to be responsible for training new and existing Scouts, together with promoting the importance of training to ensure high standards and consistency within the housekeeping department. Ensuring compliance with current Covid risk assessments and new working practices.
3. To train all new scouts, as per the agreed training plan, in both the policies and procedures of the College and in the correct methods of cleaning and maintenance, ensuring the necessary records are kept.
4. To organise the daily room cleaning schedules and rota (including all weekend and conference cover).
5. The updating and monitoring of Kinetics, ensuring all changes are appropriately logged and dealt in timely fashion.
6. The approval and management of holiday requests, in conjunction with the Housekeeper.
7. The monitoring of all sickness absence taken by Scouts at both sites.
8. The answering of day to day issues relating to room queries via both email and telephone. Emails are to be checked in the absence of the Housekeeper, especially first thing in the morning.
9. To carry out regular spot-checks in accordance with procedures and to provide constructive feedback and training for staff on how to maintain the required standards. To identify individual training needs and to carry out necessary training in liaison with the Housekeeper, as per the training plan, and to maintain training records.
10. The Housekeeper and Deputy are responsible for ensuring the efficient use of chemicals by the Housekeeping team, and their correct storage, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained and monitored, and for issuing stock to staff as required. To help the Housekeeper with the stock take.
11. To work with the Housekeeper to ensure staff are kept fully informed of their duties for the day, including any changes from their normal work pattern are fully communicated.
12. The Housekeeper and Deputy are responsible for the supply of linen including overseeing the bagging up all laundry for collection and storage upon return.
13. At the end of each term when student rooms are vacated, to assist with the planning and organising of the spring-cleaning programme for scouts to include carpet and curtain cleaning, window cleaning, paintwork cleaning, moving of furniture, skirting boards, high level dusting, ensuring all areas are clean and fresh.
14. To assist the Housekeeper with organising Bed and Breakfast and Conference room requirements, and liaising with guests to ensure excellent customer service as required. During the Conference period it is expected that there will be a requirement to work weekends.
15. To assist with covering weekend work and absence as necessary.
16. To clean staircases/rooms as cover where necessary.
Daily Cleaning Duties
1. Thoroughly clean to the required standards all designated rooms, including bathrooms, kitchens landings, stairways and corridors.
2. Empty bins and wash glasses etc.
3. Dust and vacuum Guest Rooms, including bathrooms, daily and change linen accordingly.
4. Check, dust and vacuum Fellows' rooms twice/three times per week as necessary.
5. Dust and vacuum lecture rooms daily.
6. Sweep and mop floors, clean worktops and sinks and empty bins in kitchens daily.
7. Access is required once each week to student rooms to dust and vacuum. Rubbish to be removed daily.
8. All washbasins, baths and toilets to be thoroughly cleaned as per schedule.
9. Stairways, landings and corridors to be dusted and vacuumed as per schedule.
Any other tasks that can be reasonably expected of the job holder.
