Quality Technician

馃搷 Location: Runcorn

馃挵 Pay: 拢16.40 per hour

馃晵 Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts (Monday-Friday)

  • 5:30am - 1:30pm
  • 1:30pm - 9:30pm
  • 馃搨 Department: Quality

Purpose of the Position

To ensure all products manufactured comply with food safety, quality, and legal requirements prior to release.

Key Responsibilities

Control of Products

  • Responsible for the release of raw materials and semi-finished products
  • Ensure all internal quality, product, and process monitoring, testing, and analysis is completed against agreed schedules and aligned to the site Quality Management System (QMS) and customer specifications
  • Monitor QC testing results and escalate potential issues to relevant stakeholders
  • Recommend solutions and identify corrective actions where required
  • Ensure systems are in place to verify finished product release against agreed customer specifications
  • Maintain product control on site until formal release

Product Standards

  • Ensure all products meet required specifications through:
    • Sensory evaluation testing
    • Accurate completion and recording of QC checks in line with procedures
    • Microbiological and chemical testing (non-batch and batch as per customer requirements)
  • Investigate anomalous results and take appropriate corrective action
  • Manage retained and micro samples to accurately represent material batches
  • Review and ensure product testing plans are logical and suitable for existing and new materials
  • Report any drift in product or process quality parameters when reviewing historical data

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

  • Ensure the laboratory is "audit ready" on a daily basis

Non-Conforming Products

  • Escalate issues to the Quality Manager where required

Laboratory Safety

  • Ensure safe start-up and close-down of the laboratory at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Report near-misses, accidents, hazards, occupational illnesses, and emergencies in line with reporting procedures
  • Support investigations when required
  • Participate in Health & Safety initiatives (e.g., risk assessments, safety observations)
  • Ensure waste is managed and disposed of through the correct waste streams

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in a food manufacturing or laboratory environment
  • Understanding of QMS, food safety, and quality standards
  • Knowledge of microbiological and chemical testing processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyse data
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to work effectively within a rotating shift pattern
