We are currently recruiting a Scientific Officer for our client based in Belfast, Airport Road. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork and ANI completed.

Start date: ASAP

Rate of pay: £17.43

Duration: 25/01/2026 (potential for extension)

Hours of work: 37

Key Responsibilities:

The post-holder will support the team in delivering goals and objectives under the EFS MEF

The post-holder will assist in the analysis of data and evidence on designated sites which is used to measure the effectiveness of the agri-environment scheme.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Use of ArcGIS PRO and MS Excel to analyse large spatial datasets.
  • Assisting in management of NI Countryside Survey data and maintenance of webpages.
  • Preparation of web content based on current and historical data/reports including text, charts and graphs.

It may also include some habitat survey in the field.

Essential Criteria applicants must have:

  • Degree & 4 GCE/GCSE 'O' Levels, grades A-C, in separate subjects which must include English, Mathematics and one Science subject (Proof of certs required).
  • 2 years continuous experience gained within the last 8 years in a paid, voluntary or academic capacity associated with the conservation or assessment of our natural terrestrial or freshwater heritage (ecosystems, habitats or species), such as in one or a combination of the following:

- Using ArcGISand MS Excel to analyse ecological datasets

- Professional standard report writing and preparation

- Conducting ecological surveys (including mapping, recording and monitoring of scientific data)

Desirable skills/experience:

  • A good ecological and knowledge base with some experience of species and habitats management/restoration.
