Job Role: Portal Industrial Pay: £15.05 per hour (20% Shift Allowance included) Location: Belfast Port Working Pattern: Full-Time shift work (details below) Length of Assignment: 6 Months, with potential extension Start Date: ASAP<hr /><h3>Job Duties</h3><ul><li>Animal Handling: Leading in handling, restraining, moving, loading, and unloading animals to ensure staff safety and animal welfare. Involves various species including livestock (cattle, sheep, pigs, goats), equines (horses, donkeys), poultry, pets, live fish, and other animals (deer, llamas, alpacas, rodents).</li><li>Biosecurity and Facility Hygiene: Cleaning and disinfecting animal holding facilities between animal batches to maintain biosecurity.</li><li>Assisting with Inspections: Moving animals for vet inspections and performing checks, including physical and identity verification.</li><li>Animal Husbandry: Caring for detained animals (feeding, bedding, etc.).</li><li>Vehicle and Site Coordination: Managing on-site vehicle movements and reporting any issues with consignments (e.g., sick animals, vehicle damage).</li><li>Animal Identification: Using scanners for electronic ID checks (e.g., microchips, ear tags) and printing lists for inspectors.</li><li>Effluent Cleanup: Removing and disinfecting any transport vehicle effluent spills.</li><li>Adhering to Biosecurity: Following DAERA biosecurity protocols.</li><li>Seal and Container Management: Removing seals, opening containers, and unloading/loading products for inspection.</li><li>Inspection Room Hygiene: Cleaning and disinfecting inspection rooms between product batches.</li><li>Plant and Machinery Inspections: Assisting with checks on plants, imported timber, and machinery cleanliness.</li><li>Driving: Operating Department vehicles, with occasional travel across Northern Ireland.</li><li>Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Conducting daily vehicle checks, cleaning, fuel management, and logging, with stock monitoring.</li><li>Safety and PPE Compliance: Adhering to health and safety standards, ensuring PPE use, and participating in training.</li></ul>Note: This role is physically demanding and requires outdoor work in various weather conditions.<hr /><h3>Essential Criteria</h3><ol><li>Experience:<ul><li>3 months experience within the past 5 years handling livestock*</li><li>3 months experience within the past 5 years handling equines</li></ul></li><li>Driving:<ul><li>Full, valid driving license for manual vehicles in NI</li></ul></li></ol>Livestock includes agricultural animals like cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, and poultry.<hr /><h3>Current Belfast Port Shift Patterns</h3><ul><li>Hours: 37 hours per week as part of a rotating shift pattern, including regular weekend and night duty.</li><li>Shift Times:<ul><li>Early Shift: 06:00 - 14:24</li><li>Late Shift: 14:00 - 22:24</li><li>Night Shift: 22:00 - 06:24</li></ul></li></ul>Shift patterns may change based on business needs.<hr /><h3>Additional Information</h3><ul><li>Travel: Appointees must have access to transportation for role responsibilities.</li><li>Medical: A driver's medical assessment is required pre-appointment to ensure suitability for duties.</li><li>Weekends - Pay rate for weekends will be paid at a higher rate:</li></ul>Saturday - £21.32phSunday/Bank Holidays - £27.59phAppointees will work shifts with regular night duties.
