Where do you currently work and what do you do?
I currently work at Capita employee solutions as a pensions technician. Attention to detail is important, no specialist skills except excel but you are surrounded by people who know a lot about the system.
When did you start working there?
I have been at Capita since August 13th 2018
Tell me about a typical day at work
I work on the project team, due to regulatory requirements we need to make sure the data held on file is in order every year. The work is based in Excel and we are looking at pensions data to make sure the data is there and correct then we report to the trustees. We are then able to offer a service that identifies any gaps in data and find and complete data that is missing.
What was your application process like?
It was very quick and simple. I had recently moved back to the UK and was looking for work. I originally was looking at a different role and I was introduced to a Blue Arrow representative. I submitted my CV and registered with Blue arrow. Soon after that I sat an interview and was offered the job. The whole process took around 7-10 days.
They carried out compliance checks after I had started working, they carried these out again after I took on a permanent position.
What were you most nervous about before you started?
I was a little apprehensive as I hadn’t worked in the UK for some time. I was in management positions before and so was concerned about going back into what would be classed as an entry level position.
Did you receive any training before you started?
We did have a short into to the company and some simulations that were informative but most of the training was on the job on a task by task basis. It could really benefit from a structured training programme especially for those who feel they need the support from the outset because when you first start it is not always clear what you are doing or the bigger picture of what you are doing.
Are you aware of any career progression or self-development options?
It was a temp to perm position so being taken on permanently was the main development goal.
What do you like most about your job?
The office atmosphere, it is a nice friendly team, the people are very helpful and it is a nice relaxed working atmosphere. Capita are flexible with your working hours, so long as you have 7.5 hours logged a day you can really work to your own pace.
What do you dislike most about your job?
The lack of extra training, and a lack of clarity for advancement opportunities, those could be improved upon.
What would say to someone who was thinking of coming to work for Capita?
I would explain it from my own personal experience, if you are ambitious it may not be the place for you, I have management experience that they are aware of, but they do not seem to be looking to utilise my past experiences.
Are there many group activities that you can be a part of?
There are lots of social committee events, nights out, quizzes and things like that. They work hard to make sure there are lots of opportunities to get together.
Would you recommend your job to a friend?
If they enjoyed this type of work, then absolutely.
