Blue Arrow in Tooting is looking for a chef for a Care Home based in Clapham Common.

This is a temporary to permanent position, initially you will be working through Blue Arrow Agency and then if you like the role and you pass the probation period you will be employed by the care home.

Responsible to: Catering Manager

Hours of working:
Five days over seven; 40 hours per week including 30 minutes unpaid break per day. This post will include split shift and bank holiday working.

Salary: £18,926 - £19,668 per year

Purpose of Post

This post is responsible for providing a high quality and flexible inpatient catering service to meet all patient's needs, and to support the function of the Café, the post holder will also be involved with the preparation of food for both internal and external functions as required. You will also be responsible for maintaining food and hygiene standards. This post will involve hands on cooking on a regular basis.

Key tasks

Catering provision

  • Prepare and cook meals and snacks following pre-set menus following in house quality standards and in accordance with food and hygiene standards

  • Ensure all inpatient food is prepared with due care and attention, in particular in regard to patient's special dietary requirements, texture and portion sizes

  • Assist in the delivery of meals to individual patients

  • Prepare and cook batch meals for future consumption

  • Undertake simple stock control, reporting goods to be ordered to the catering manager to ensure adequate supplies are maintained and may require you to place orders with nominated suppliers

  • To ensure all temperature checks are carried out and records kept

  • To ensure food samples are kept (frozen) for a minimum of one week.

  • Oversee the cleaning regimes for the main kitchen, surrounding store areas and equipment; keep all required records and undertake COSHH and HACCP assessments

  • Ensure the security of the kitchen and storerooms is maintained at all times to provide a safe working environment

  • Attend training courses as required

  • To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post

  • In the absence of the Catering Manager, supervise kitchen staff in day to day operational duties to maintain high standards of meal preparation in the kitchen in accordance with food and hygiene standards
