Blue Arrow cyclists raise over £9500 for The Joshua Foundation
29 July 2010
Blue Arrow employees across the country joined forces throughout May and June to complete an epic 1,800 mile cycle ride aiming to raise thousands of pounds for children with cancer.
In total 47 legs of the ride were completed from Inverness in Scotland to Plymouth on the South Coast.
The cyclists were supported by the company’s Mobile Recruitment Centre which travelled with them providing assistance where necessary.
The fundraiser was the first major event Blue Arrow has undertaken since adopting The Joshua Foundation as its official charity.
The Joshua Foundation provides life experiences for children with terminal cancer. It is named after Joshua Cornelius from Caerphilly in South Wales who died from a rare form of cancer at the age of seven in 1999.
His mum, Sarah Cornelius Price, has since raised more than £6m through the foundation, which she named after her only son.
Blue Arrow’s adoption of The Joshua Foundation took place in January 2010. So far the cycle ride has raised in excess of £9500, with donations still being made.
Andrew Pettingill, Managing Director of Blue Arrow, had this to say: “The people of Blue Arrow never cease to amaze me. It really shows that they can achieve anything and, during the epic journey, everyone really lived and breathed some of our values, such as community & team spirit and of, course, fun. On our travels, some of the terminally-ill children from The Joshua Foundation, and their families, dropped into our offices for a party before going off for an all expenses paid evening out. This really brought home why we were doing this as employees got on their bikes in some cases for the first time since going to school! More importantly, we did this for such a worthy cause and were able to put a smile on these young people's faces!”
